Welcome to the latest issue of Q Legends, a series of one-off magazines dedicated to those artists who’ve earned legendary status in our opinion. By the time Q published its first issue in 1986, Led Zeppelin had long since split up, it’s remaining members dissolving the band in the wake of drummer John Bonham’s death in 1980. Despite that. though, they have remained a continual presence in the magazine. there have been interviews looking back at their records, organically reflecting on the group’s magical peak, or meetings to discuss reunions and new projects. But perhaps the most pertinent reason why Led Zeppelin have never been far from Q’s pages is that they’ve never felt like a band consigned to the past. Their music continues to shape our world, and has done for over the past three decades. Think of an era-defining rock band who would exist without Led Zeppelin. You can’t, Because there isn’t one. Guns N’Roses, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden, Metallica, Pearl Jam, Muse, U2, The White Stripes and many more have taken cues from their hard rock sound or bombastic ambition, from their retooled blues or flamboyant showmanship. Now seemed like the perfect time to trace the story of the group who reset the course of rock’n’roll. This year marks 50 years since Led Zeppelin’s formation, an anniversary Robert Plant, Jimmy Page & John Paul Jones celebrated with the release of Led Zeppelin by Led Zeppelin, The band’s first official illustrated book. We revisit the band’s history over a series of extensive interviews with Plant, Page and Jones and there’s a look at some of the images from the book, with quotes from the band in an exclusive gallery. The song remains the same… but what a song it was. Enjoy the Issue.
