As we head deeper into the 21st century the future for the internal combustion engine looks limited. Whether it be four-stoke, two-stroke, rotary or compression ignition, setting fire to fossil fuels in a controlled environment has an obvious time limit. So we say, lets celebrate them while we can.
Because it cannot be denied that much of what we call modern civilisation was built on suck, squeeze, bang, blow – or an equivalent. Without internal combustion the world would be very different. In this book we unpack our favourite classics lumps, lay them lovingly on the floor and examine them in minute detail.
The engines we have chosen are as diverse as they are fascinating and all of them are worthy of celebration; large, small or, in the case of the Mopar 383cu V8, fabulously huge. So sit back and enjoy our engine autopsies, you won’t see them anywhere else.
