Luck and Strange – David Gilmour
A brand-new solo album released on September 6, 2024 by Sony Legacy. This edition is a standard black vinyl LP presented in a gatefold sleeve with a booklet featuring photography and design by renowned artist Anton Corbijn. It marks Gilmour’s first album of new material in nine years, recorded over five months in Brighton and London.
Produced by David Gilmour and Charlie Andrew (known for his work with ALT-J), the album features lyrics primarily written by Polly Samson, Gilmour’s long-time collaborator. The tracklist includes eight original songs plus a reimagined version of The Montgolfier Brothers’ Between Two Points, performed by Romany Gilmour on vocals and harp. Other musicians include Guy Pratt and Tom Herbert on bass, Steve Gadd, Adam Betts, and Steve DiStanislao on drums, with keyboards by Rob Gentry and Roger Eno. String and choral arrangements were crafted by Will Gardner.
A notable highlight is the title track, which features a recording of Richard Wright, the late Pink Floyd keyboardist, captured during a 2007 “Barn Jam” session. Luck and Strange blends Gilmour’s signature guitar work with fresh production ideas, making it an essential release for fans of progressive and classic rock.
