Simply Crochet – Issue 61£5.99
In Simply Crochet issue 61 you’ll find our new Hook to Hook designer challenge, and this issue it features designs by Emma Wright and Emma Leith. They were both given six shades of DY Choice Aran With Wool yarn and challenged to design us a blanket.
“This cosy design is built around an old favourite”, Yorkshire-based crochet designer Emma Wright told us: “Granny squares really are my crochet go-to, they are so reliable. They look beautiful, they work well with all colours and I love playing with scale, which is where the idea of my four-patch granny squares came from. The blanket looks great when sewn together into a full-sized square!”
Artist and yarn bomber Emma Leith says: “The inspiration for this blanket came from the look and feel of the yarn. I wanted to ease us into the autumn evenings with a restful project, which I hope this is. I usually go for bright colours so this was a departure for me and I’ve loved every minute. I wanted to create a fabric effect that allowed the colours to complement each other, and by using block stitch I was able to introduce little flecks of colour on each row.”
Today’s Quilter – Issue 26£5.99
We quilters know only too well the impact that the quilting design you choose can make on your finished quilts. Free-motion quilting can create beautiful effects, but it can be daunting when you’re starting out…
Whether you’re quilting on your domestic sewing machine or are lucky enough to have access to a longarm variety, we’ve made this 44 page free supplement for you! It’s full of tips, projects and designs to inspire you from expert Angela Walters (author of some of our favourite free motion quilting books). Let us know how you get on!
Here are a few of our favourite highlights from our new issue…
When it comes to colour-pros, two of our favourites have joined forces for our cover star quilt, above! Jo Avery created it using Kaffe Fassett fabric and the result is a quilt to treasure. Use up all those bold, big patterns in this playful design, complete with a clever machine appliqué technique that gives this design a twist of tendrils, creeping over a patchwork wall.
Sew a gorgeous quilt inspired by pieces from yesteryear with our In Full Bloomquilt: vintage themes and patterns abound and you get to have lots of fun with appliqué leaves and florals!
Let your quilting do the talking with this classic quilt design on hand-dyed fabric by Trudi Wood.
