Bauer Media has today launched their new magazine title “Planet Rock”, an extension of the UK’s successful commercial radio and live events brand. Mags Direct, as a partner of Bauer, have a huge stock ready to post out, as always free postage in the UK!
Issue 1 features a mirrored and embossed collectors’ cover, and celebrates the remarkable rise of Motörhead via a gargantuan 17-page cover story which includes eye-witness accounts and a new interview with legendary guitarist ‘Fast’ Eddie Clarke.
As a magazine, Planet Rock will combine the editorial depth, bespoke design – art edited by Russell Moorcroft, a member of the award-winning MOJO team – and collectibility of Bauer’s market-leading music title, MOJO, with the humour, insight and passion of the Planet Rock brand. The title will be aimed at 30-50 year old music-lovers, and will add context to Planet Rock’s on-air programming and bring some of its key franchises to life. A key focus is to ensure that the brand supports artists on-air, on-line, via events and in print, which will also create a unique opportunity for those acts and their labels to reach Planet Rock’s unique audience which stretches to over a million ardent rock fans.
Commenting on the launch, Ric Blaxill, music and content director of Bauer Radio, said: “As Planet Rock continues growing audience on-air, on-line, on mobile and on social, to be able to now launch a high quality Planet Rock magazine is a truly exciting development for the station. It gives the brand a new and strong platform for listeners to enjoy our content, get more insight into the station, the artists we play and our presenters. And as well as supporting rock music even more, it gives us a great chance to push our station mantra of ‘converting the unconverted’ even further!”
Phil Alexander editor in chief of MOJO, Q, Kerrang! and Planet Rock, added: “The idea for Planet Rock Magazine came last year when Ric and I were talking about the incredible community of fans that listen to Planet Rock. We got excited about creating a magazine that reflected how they use and discover music, and which also reflected their conversations. That’s how we ended up shaping Planet Rock magazine: by listening to that community and creating a magazine for rock fans like us, featuring the artists that we all love. We hope they’ll enjoy what we’ve come up with.”

We now know the four semi-finalists who will duke it out on Finals Day;
The Notts Outlaws booked their place with a crushing win over the Essex Eagles, while the Northants Steelbacks dominated Middlesex to book their place at Edgbaston.
There was an upset as Durham Jets turned over Gloucestershire, who topped the South Group, while Yorkshire Vikings being the last team to progress after defeating Glamorgan, to make it an all North Group Finals Day.
Finals Day takes place on the August 20th, in front of a sold out Edgbaston crowd.
If you cannot make the day, we are the only official suppliers of the programme, and you can order your copy from us now! We will be posting them out after the finals weekend, due to them only being printed just before the event!
Here is the semi-final draw:
Notts Outlaws v Northants Steelbacks 1100 BST
Durham Jets v Yorkshire Vikings 1430 BST
Notts Outlaws v Northants Steelbacks
Notts Outlaws have never lost a game to Northants Steelbacks and they are currently 4 from 4 in the form book. This is the third time the Notts Outlaws have qualified for Finals Day, although they have lost out in both previous attempts to Leicestershire Foxes and Somerset.
The Steelbacks have now qualified for the Finals Day three times in the last four seasons. Previously, they qualified in 2013 and 2015.
The Steelbacks won their last two semi-finals in the NatWest T20 Blast and both times they did so chasing. Notts Outlaws have nine wins on the trot ahead of the semi-final. On the other hand, Northants have seen defeat in four out of their last six games.
Durham Jets v Yorkshire Vikings
In the matches between Durham Jets and Yorkshire Vikings, each team has won an alternate fixture in the last six games. The most recent encounter was won by Yorkshire Vikings. Between 2005 and 2007, Yorkshire Vikings won five games in a row against Durham Jets. However, since then they have failed to record back-to-back wins.
Durham Jets have reached Finals Day for the second time. Previously, in 2008, they lost to Middlesex in the semi-final. Similarly, Yorkshire Vikings have also reached the semi-finals for the second time. The last time, they lost to Hampshire in the final. Ten out of the last 11 games involving Yorkshire has seen the side batting first win.
Out of these games, Yorkshire Vikings have won eight games. At Edgbaston, Yorkshire have lost both of their T20 matches. Similarly, Durham have seen defeat in three out of their four games at this venue.

Speed demon Guy Martin is becoming an unlikely household name, and you can’t help but like him. He’s a no-nonsense old fashioned ‘bloke’, who reminds me of what we used to think a British sports star should be – an amateur who does no exercise, who likes a beer, and spends a lot of time making stuff in sheds. He’s become such a legend in his own lifetime we’ve even got a special MCN magazine all about him!
Sometime lorry mechanic, sometime TV presenter, oh and the fact he’s one of motorcycling’s biggest names is something he’d shrug off with his truly modest and laid back style. He also is a complete speed nut, with several world records to his name, another of which, the fastest and biggest wall of death ride in history he broke in a recent TV documentary.
After the unlikely heartthrob reached hair-raising speeds of 78.15mph on the 20-ton wooden wall that is six metres high and ten metres in diameter, the truck-fitter from Grimsby simply reached for a cup of tea…but his partner looked like she might have preferred something stronger.
